Bear Valley Ski Team coaches, parents and athletes,
I would like to introduce myself in the capacity of head coach for the Bear Valley Ski Team. I am
excited to be moving to the central Sierra area and commencing the season at Bear Valley in
early December.
George ThomasI have been teaching skiing and coaching ski racing for over 25 years. I was once a junior competitor with Crystal Mountain Alpine Club in the Pacific Northwest and later competed at the
NCAA level. My four‐year collegiate career was punctuated with a junior year studying, but mostly skiing and racing in Europe out of the Université de Grenoble as part of the largest ski
team program in the world.

After college and a stint with the Marine Corps I worked in the field of publishing for a number of years, however, I eventually transitioned from the world of office work to teaching and coaching skiing. I earned my PSIA Level III certification back in 1985 and am currently certified as a National Level 400 Alpine Ski Coach. Over the years I have worked with several different ski team programs as well as having spent numerous summers coaching summer camps at Mt. Hood. To help augment my knowledge base related to physical training of athletes I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Always looking for new challenges, the past two summers I have been busy
coaching women’s gymnastics and am a certified professional member of USA Gymnastics.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with literally thousands of young aspiring athletes. Every year I find myself ever more inspired, educated and motivated by the enthusiasm, dedication and joy of participation exhibited daily by the athletes with whom I have the privilege to work. I look forward to meeting the Bear Valley Ski Team family, and working together with the ski area management team and coaching staff aspire to provide a safe, fun and effective training and racing experience for each and every athlete involved.
