The Rasmussen Classic Race is held over the weekend of January 22nd and 23rd at
the Bear Valley Mountain Resort. This race is a two SL race event. Nearly 80
competitors registered for the 2-day event to compete for the top positions.
In addition the Bear Valley’s racers, athletes came from Dodge Ridge, Yosemite
Winter Club, China Peak, Kirkwood, and Diamond Peak. Women and Men competitors
comprised 5 age categories with the top three places being awarded in each. Complete

The Rasmussen Classic awards the U14 Women’s and U14 Men’s competitors
with a special award of the long-coveted cowbell for the fastest combined time from
both days. This season’s winners are Elise Fowler of Bear Valley and Kane Hall of
Bear Valley.
Saturday started with a one-hour delay due to high winds and complete closure
of the resort the day before. Just as the competitors’ first run was coming to an end,
the winds came back with a vengeance.
Within the hour, the mountain put a wind hold on all chair lifts and shut them
down. Race officials were forced to call the race and continue the next day.
The winds were gone by Sunday, and all the race officials and many volunteers
were committed to getting the race courses set and ready for the day.
In a normal race, there are two runs per day, but because the winds forced them to
call the second run on Saturday, they had to get three runs set instead of two.
Needless to say, the officials and volunteers worked tirelessly to make it happen for
these kids.
The next USSA Far West Central Series races are: Badger Pass, Jan 29th and 30th
Dodge Ridge, Feb 12th and 13, and China Peak Feb, 26th and 27th.
