Feather Duster, Bear Valley’s vaunted SL run was the scene for this season’s Rasmussen Classic on January 27-28. The event was open to U14 and U16 competitors, attracting racers from Dodge Ridge, China Peak, Snow Summit, Sky Tavern, Kirkwood and of course Bear Valley. While the Rasmussen Classic usually includes U10 and U12 racers, the merging of the Central and South Series has resulted in this season’s separations of the two groups. The U10 and U12 racers competed at Snow Summit the weekend of Jan 20-21.
The course sets and the hill (after all, this is the same run used by the World Pro Ski Tour) were demanding but these young athletes were up to the challenge. The track was impeccably groomed with a hard surface giving way to softening conditions on both Saturday and Sunday.
Ladies Results- Saturday, Jan 27
U14: Sky Tavern Race Team’s Avery Cronin, Kinley Quinn taking first and second place respectively with Centuriii Potter of Snow Summit in third place.
U16: First place went to Lindsay Yon from Snow Summit. Julia Jockin, also from Snow Summit came in second with Vanessa Dahl of Dodge Ridge finishing third.
Men’s Results-Saturday, Jan 27
U14: First Place went to Enzo Vannini of Sky Tavern with 2 scorching runs out-pacing the field by 20 seconds combined. Second place was Snow Summit’s Ian Bai followed by Aidan Hauptman from China Peak.
U16: First place, Kai Schoebel from Kirkwood followed by Bear Valley’s Max Balco. The remainder of the field did not finish.
U14: First place went to Meila Ayers from Sky Tavern with Jane Roberts in second place. Bear Valley’s Kenan Dragomanovich hauled in third place out of a field of 22 competitors.
U16: Lindsay Yon of Snow Summit took first place. Vanessa Dahl of Dodge Ridge nabbed second with Bear Valley’s Sonja Arneborn in third place.
U14: Ian Bai from Snow Summit placed first followed by Aiden Hauptman of China Peak. Third place went to Brady Busick from China Peak
U16: Matej Capek from Snow Summit took first place. Second place went to Mason Ayers of Sky Tavern Race Team. Bear Valley’s Sebastian Barrios took third place.
