Blue skies and perfect spring conditions set the stage for the last Saturday’s annual Slush Cup Dual GS fundraising race at Bear Valley. More than 70 racers of all ages gathered for a day of fun, competition, and community spirit.
Despite a delayed start caused by some pesky “gremlins” in the timing system, the racers patiently waited. But once we were underway, the energy on the hill never wavered.
Morning qualification runs determined start sequence for the afternoon finals where racers ran the blue course and then the red course. Racers were paired according to qualification times setting up a competitive final. Elapsed times for each of the two runs were added with the lowest total time winning. The Slush Cup lived up to its name with the afternoon final runs challenging racers with soft conditions and deep ruts.
Participants competed in categories based on age, gender, and discipline—ski or snowboard—with awards going to the top finisher in each group.
