Between November 8th and 11th, our team completed the ambitious timing project on Bear Boogie. Over the course of just a few days, we trenched more than 3,300 feet and installed conduit and timing wire stretching from the top of the course down to just above the Polar Express trail crossing. Thanks to the dedication of countless volunteers, the work was finished just in time—beating the storm that rolled in last Thursday.
This milestone marks a huge step toward realizing the dream of hosting a race on the backside of the mountain in 2026. The project would not have been possible without the generosity and hard work of so many. Special recognition goes to Head Race Coach Nick Shawkey, John Carlisle, Kyle Roberts, Mike Keennon, Colby Farrell, Joe Trapasso, Chris Keltner, Gary Smith, Nick’s son Jakob Shawkey, and Steve Hewlett, whose mini excavator spared us hours of grueling labor. And of course, heartfelt thanks to Nick’s wife Shana and daughter Emma for their unwavering support throughout the journey.
Together, we’ve turned a vision into reality—and laid the foundation for an unforgettable race in the years ahead!
